Ông nói gà, bà nói vịt (to talk at cross purposes)
Meaning : Two people talking to each other but they talk about different topic .
Example : Hai người họ nói chuyện mà chả liên quan nhau gì cả, mỗi người nói một đằng, đúng là “ông nói gà, bà nói vịt”. (They are talking at cross purposes.)
Giao trứng cho ác (Don’t let the fox guard the hen house / Send the fox to mind the geese)
Meaning : Trust in bad people.
Example : Giao thẻ tín dụng của mình cho người mà mình hoàn toàn không biết rõ thì khác nào “giao trứng cho ác”. (Giving your credit card to someone you don’t know well is like “sending the fox to mind the geese”.)
Gà trống nuôi con
Meaning : Indicates men who are widowed or abandoned by their wives have to raise their children alone.
Example : Từ sau khi vợ anh ta mất, anh ta phải sống trong cảnh gà trống nuôi con. (Since his wife died, he has had to bring up his children alone.)
Chữ viết như gà bới
Meaning : Illegible handwriting
Example : Chữ cậu xấu như gà bới vậy đó. (Your handwriting is illegible.)
Cõng rắn cắn gà nhà (Set a fox to keep the geese)
Meaning : The action of bringing the evil people to harm your relatives.
Example : Chính hắn ta là kẻ đã “cõng rắn cắn gà nhà”, cũng chính vì hắn mà tất cả người thân của hắn phải chịu thảm cảnh như hôm nay. (He set a fox to keep the geese. It is because of him that all his relatives suffered.)
Trông gà hóa cuốc (To take chalk for cheese)
Meaning : Confuse this thing with that thing due to lack of alertness.
Example : Bức tranh này dễ khiến người ta “trông gà hóa cuốc”. (This picture makes everyone “take chalk for cheese”.)
Bút sa gà chết (The die is cast)
Meaning : Once you agree with something or sign something, it is impossible to change your mind.
Example : Cần phải cân nhắc kỹ trước khi ký tên, tránh tình trạng “bút sa gà chết”. (You need to consider carefully before signing to avoid the situation of “the die is cast”.)
Bóng chim tăm cá
Meaning : Indicates things that are very difficult to find.
Example : Rất khó để tìm được một người bạn hoàn toàn phù hợp với mình, như đi tìm “bóng chim tăm cá” vậy. (It is very difficult to find a friend who is completely perfect for you.)

Chim có tổ, người có tông
Meaning : Everyone has their ancestors. This idiom expresses the gratitude of people to their ancestors and parents.
Lúng túng như gà mắc tóc (As clumsy as a bear)
Meaning : Referring to those who lacks of calm and are confused.
Example : Có chuyện gì mà trông cậu “lúng túng như gà mắc tóc” vậy? (What makes you as clumsy as a bear?)
Quạ mượn lông công
Meaning : Referring to the liars who use the good things of others to cover up their bad things.
Example : Một kẻ xấu xa như hắn nhưng lúc nào cũng dùng tên tuổi của những người nổi tiếng khác để đánh bóng tên tuổi của mình, khác nào “quạ mượn lông công”. (A bad guy like him but always using the names of other celebrities to polish his name, what a liar he is.)
Con gà tức nhau tiếng gáy
Meaning : Someone who likes to compete and can’t stand to see other people better than he / she.
Học như gà đá vách
Meaning : Referring to those who don’t have the will to study, so they don’t get good results.
Ngựa chạy có bầy, chim bay có bạn
Meaning : Talks about solidarity and mutual support.
