Trẻ lên ba cả nhà học nói

Meaning : 3-year-old children are learning to speak, which makes the whole family happily talk with the children.

Yêu trẻ, trẻ đến nhà. Kính già, già để tuổi cho

Meaning : If you love children, they will often come to your house to play and this makes your home happy. If you respect the elderly, you can live a long life like them.

Example : Chúng ta phải luôn cư xử hòa nhã với mọi người, yêu quý trẻ em và kính trọng người lớn tuổi, bởi vì “yêu trẻ, trẻ đến nhà. Kính già, già để tuổi cho” mà. (We must always be kind to everyone, cherish children and respect the elderly, if so, our life will become happier.)

Cả vú lấp miệng em

Meaning : Relying on one’s position to bully someone with lower position.

Example : Cậu ấy ỷ mình là anh nên cứ ăn hiếp em trai của mình, đúng là “cả vú lấp miệng em”. (Being the older brother, he kept picking on his younger brother.)

Trẻ cậy cha, già cậy con

Meaning : As a child, we must rely on our parents. When our parents get old and weak, they must rely on us.

Ba tháng biết lẫy, bảy tháng biết bò, chín tháng lò dò chạy đi

Meaning : 3 common stages of a child’s development: being able to roll over, being able to crawl and then being able to walk.

Chưa học bò đã lo học chạy

Meaning : Referring to those who haven’t finished learning small things yet worry about big things.

Example : Muốn học ngoại ngữ tốt thì phải học thuộc lòng bảng chữ cái trước chứ không phải mới vào đã lo học ngữ pháp, không nên “chưa học bò đã lo học chạy”. (If you want to master a foreign language, you have to learn by heart the alphabet first, not grammar.)
