Ăn chọn nơi, chơi chọn bạn
Meaning : You should choose the right friends to play with.
Example : Nam nghe lời bạn mình xúi giục nên đã bỏ học để đi chơi, hậu quả là cậu ấy đã bị hạnh kiểm yếu. Người ta nói “ăn chọn nơi, chơi chọn bạn” thật chẳng sai chút nào. (Nam listened to his friends and skipped school, which results in having misconduct at school. It’s not wrong to say “Choose the right place to live, choose the right friends to play with”)
Ăn cùng mâm, nằm cùng chiếu
Meaning : Show deep friendship. People who are friends with each other are always side by side in all circumstances.
Example : Trước đây hai người họ đã từng là những người bạn “ăn cùng mâm, nằm cùng chiếu” với nhau, thật không ngờ chỉ vì một mâu thuẫn nhỏ mà bây giờ lại coi nhau như kẻ thù. (The two of them was best friends before, but now they see each other as their enemy just because of a small conflict)
Buôn có bạn, bán có phường
Meaning : When doing something, you should cooperate with others so that you can develop together with them.
Giàu đổi bạn sang đổi vợ
Meaning : Criticize those who easily change their heart and be treacherous with their friends.
Example : Vừa mới lên chức giám đốc một cái là anh ta liền tỏ vẻ kiêu ngạo và không thèm chơi chung với người bạn nghèo khổ của mình nữa. Câu nói “giàu đổi bạn sang đổi vợ” đối với anh ta chẳng hề sai một chút nào. (He is arrogant and don’t play with his poor friend right after becoming a director. Học thầy không tày học bạn
Meaning : Besides learning from teachers, it is necessary to learn good things from your friends.
Example : Cậu hãy tham gia vào nhóm học tập với lớp nhé, “học thầy không tày học bạn” mà. (Let’s join our class’s study group, because “better learn your friend than your teacher”)
Ngựa chạy có bầy, chim bay có bạn
Meaning : Whatever you do, you need friends. Friends will help and share the difficulties with you.
Thêm bạn bớt thù
Meaning : Be friends with your enemies by forgiving and being well behaved.
Example : Muốn có một cuộc sống hạnh phúc và bình yên, chúng ta phải “thêm bạn bớt thù”. (In order to have a happy and peaceful life, we have to “make our enemies our friends)
Trong hoạn nạn mới biết ai là người bạn tốt
Meaning : In the most difficult circumstances, we will know who helps us, who leaves us.
Example : Minh đã từng có rất nhiều bạn bè, nhưng trong lúc Minh gặp khó khăn cần họ giúp thì đều bị họ quay lưng, chỉ có An là người duy nhất đứng ra giúp đỡ cho Minh. Đúng là “trong hoạn nạn mới biết ai là người bạn tốt”. (Minh has many friends, but they left him when he faced with difficulties, An is the only one who helped him. That is a real case of “You will know who is your good friend when facing with difficulties”)
Tứ hải giai huynh đệ
Meaning : People all over the world are our friends.
Example : Mọi người đoàn kết, giúp đỡ lẫn nhau trên tinh thần “tứ hải giai huynh đệ”. (Everyone unites and help each other in the spirit of “We are friends”)
