Position of “a” in the sentence :

“A” is an exclamatory word used at the beginning of the sentence. But sometimes it stands alone, which creates an exclamatory sentence (A!).

Meaning and example :

Meaning: Show joy or surprise of the speaker. It is also used to indicate that the speaker suddenly remembers or discovers something.

Example:

A, tôi biết rồi! (Người nói chợt phát hiện ra điều gì đó)
Oh, I know! (The speaker suddenly discovers something)

A! Cậu đây rồi! Mọi người đang rất mong chờ cậu đấy. (Thể hiện sự vui mừng của người nói)
Oh! You are here! Everyone is looking forward to you. (Show joy of the speaker)

A, có một con mèo ở đây nè! (Thể hiện sự ngạc nhiên của người nói)
Oh, there is a cat here! (Show surprise of the speaker)

Other examples:

A, tôi quên đem theo ô (dù in the south) rồi!
Oh, I forgot to bring an umbrella!

A! Ba mẹ về rồi!
Oh! My parents are back!

A, có ai làm rơi tiền nè. Mình đem đến đồn cảnh sát đi.
Oh, someone dropped money. Let’s bring it to the police station.

A, sao hôm nay anh về sớm vậy?
Oh, why are you home so early today?

A! Sao giờ này cậu còn ở đây? Mau về nhà đi, bố mẹ cậu chắc đang lo lắm đấy.
Oh! Why are you still here? Go home, your parents might be worried.
