Usage 1:
Position in sentence :
Is a demonstrative pronoun.
Meaning and example :
Meaning: Indicates a person, place or thing that is near both the speaker and the listener.
Example:
Đây là nơi mà tôi đã sinh ra.
This is the place where I was born.
Tôi đã từng đi đến đây một lần.
I have been here once.
Đây là món ăn mà tôi thích nhất.
This is my favorite food.
Chỗ ngồi của anh ở đây ạ.
Here’s your seat.
A: Ai đây?
B: Để tôi giới thiệu với anh. Đây là vợ sắp cưới của tôi.
A: Who’s this?
B: Let me introduce to you. This is my fiancée.
A: Bức ảnh này được chụp ở đâu vậy? Cảnh đẹp quá đi!
B: Đây là bức ảnh mà tớ chụp ở Hà Nội đấy.
A: Where was this photo taken? The view is so beautiful!
B: This is a photo I took in Hanoi.
A: Đây là cái gì vậy?
B: Chỉ là mấy cuốn sách cũ thôi. Tớ cũng đang định đem chúng đi vứt.
A: What are these?
B: Just my old books. I’m going to throw them away.
Usage 2:
Position in sentence :
Is a particle placed in or at the end of a sentence.
Meaning and example :
Meaning: Used to emphasize anxiety or worry about something; or to emphasize the reality or certainty of something.
Chú ý:
+ The particle “đây” is often used in spoken language.
+ “Đây” can be used in combination with certain phrases: rồi đây, lát nữa đây, mai đây, sau đây…
Example:
Tôi làm mất ví rồi. Phải làm sao đây?
I lost my wallet. What should I do?
Sau đây tôi xin giới thiệu đến mọi người sản phẩm mới của công ty chúng tôi.
I would like to introduce to everyone our new product now.
Đã trễ lắm rồi. Tớ về đây.
It’s too late. I’m going home now.
A: Cậu làm sai rồi đây này! Mau sửa lại đi.
B: Vậy sao? Để tớ coi lại xem.
A: You made a mistake! Fix it up.
B: Is that so? Let me check again.
Mai đây tớ muốn trở thành một nhà khoa học.
I want to become a scientist in the future.
Ngay cả tớ đây cũng không biết phải làm bài tập ấy như thế nào nữa. Đúng là một bài tập khó!
