Meaning and example :

Meaning: Expresses the anxiety of the speaker about something bad might happen, or expresses the regret for what happened contrary to the speaker’s wishes.

Note: 

+ The particle “mất” can be used with verbs such as lo (to worry), sợ (to fear), e, ngại (to be afraid)… to express the anxiety of the speaker about something bad might happen.

+ It is necessary to distinguish between the particle “mất” and the verb “mất”. The verb “mất” expresses that a person or thing does not exist or is no longer visible. (Tôi bị mất cây bút – I lost my pen; Ông tôi mất rồi – My grandfather passed away)

Example:

Ôi trễ mất rồi!
Oh it’s late!

Tôi sợ rằng cậu ấy sẽ không đến kịp mất.
I’m afraid he won’t come in time.

Nếu cứ làm việc liên tục như vậy thì e rằng cô ấy sẽ xỉu mất. Mau noi cô ấy nghỉ ngơi một chút đi.
I’m afraid she might faint if she keeps working like that. Tell her to rest for a while.

Tôi quên nói với anh ấy mất rồi.
I forgot to tell him this.

B: Đành phải chờ chuyến khác vậy.
A: The bus is gone.
B: We have to wait for another bus.

Tôi lỡ tiết lộ bí mật mất rồi.

A: Xin lỗi cậu, tớ lỡ làm rách cuốn sách mà cậu cho tớ mượn mất rồi.
B: Không sao đâu.
A: Sorry, I accidentally torn the book you lent me.
B: No problem.

Tôi lo rằng cô ấy sẽ không kiềm chế được mà nói ra chuyện đó. Như vậy thì chúng ta chết mất.
