Hello everyone! In this post, we will introduce to you the lesson: How to use mỗi in Vietnamese – Vietnamese grammar.

How to use mỗi in Vietnamese - Vietnamese grammar

Usage 1:

Position in sentence :

Is a quantifier placed before a unit noun.

Meaning and example :

Meaning: Denotes an individual member of a group of members which share a quality; this individual member is considered as a representative of the whole group.

Note:

– Distinguish between “mỗi”, “một” and “từng”:

+ “Một” denotes an individual member of a group, but this individual member is not used as a representative of the whole group.

+ “Từng” denotes an individual member of a group, but it stresses the succession of members, coming one after another in time or space.

– “Mỗi” và “mọi”: In some cases, “mỗi” và “mọi” can replace each other to denote a group of members which share a quality. However, there are also cases where these two words cannot replace each other because:

+ “Mọi” refers inclusively (but indefinitely) to the individual members of a whole which share a quality.

+ “Mỗi” also refers to a whole, but by way of stressing its separate members.
