How to use nhỉ in Vietnamese – Vietnamese grammar

Hello everyone! In this post, we will introduce to you the lesson: How to use nhỉ in Vietnamese – Vietnamese grammar.

Position in sentence :

Is a particle placed at the end of the interrogative or exclamatory sentence.

Meaning and example :

Meaning:

+ In the exclamatory sentence, “nhỉ” is used to get the agreement of the listener or to express agreement with the listener or criticism.

+ In interrogative sentence, “nhỉ” make the question more intimate or narrative.

Note: In the Southern dialect, “nhỉ” can be replaced by “ha”, “há”, “hén”.

Example:

Hôm qua mình đã đi đâu ấy nhỉ? Sao mình không nhớ gì hết?
Where did I go yesterday? Why don’t I remember anything?

Bộ phim này hay nhỉ!
This movie is interesting, isn’t it?

Phong cảnh ở đây đẹp quá ha! Mình ở đây chụp vài tấm hình làm kỷ niệm đi.
The scenery here is beautiful, isn’t it? Let’s take some photos here.

Cô ấy hát hay ha!
She sings well, doesn’t she?

A: Tuần sau là sinh nhật của cô giáo phải không?
B: Ừ nhỉ! Thế mà tớ quên mất.
A: Next week is the teacher’s birthday, right?
B: Oh, yes! How could I ever forget.

Đẹp mặt nhỉ!
Embarrassing, isn’t it?

Món này ngon quá nhỉ!
This dish is delicious, isn’t it?

A: Cái áo đẹp quá nhỉ! Chúng ta mua nó đi.
B: Đúng là đẹp thật nhưng mà đắt quá!
A: The shirt is so beautiful, isn’t it? Let’s buy it.
B: It is indeed beautiful but too expensive!

A: Ngày mai là chủ nhật rồi nhỉ?
B: Đâu phải, mai mới là thứ sáu thôi.
A: Tomorrow is Sunday, isn’t it?
B: No, it isn’t. Tomorrow is Friday.
