How to use
– Imperative sentences are used to ask or command someone to do or not to do something.
– Example:
Đừng nói chuyện nữa.
Stop talking.
Cẩn thận đó.
Be careful.
Em vào đi.
Come in.
Ăn nhanh lên đi. Coi chừng trễ học bây giờ.
Hurry up and eat. You might be late for school.
Cút đi!
Get out!
Structure
– When asking or commanding someone to do something:
(Subject) + verb + (đi)
Hãy + verb + đi
Example:
Cũng trễ rồi, cậu về đi.
It’s late. Go home.
Đợi đã!
Wait!
Cứ tự nhiên đi.
Help yourself.
Trật tự nào!
Be quiet!
Mau dậy đi!
Wake up!
Hãy nói sự thật cho mọi người nghe đi.
Please tell the truth to everyone.
Hãy thôi đi!
Please stop it!
– When asking or commanding someone not to do something:
(Subject) + không được + verb
(Subject) + đừng + verb
Example:
Cậu không được đi!
You can’t go!
Không được nói chuyện này cho cậu ấy biết.
Don’t tell him this.
Các em không được vào trong.
You can’t go in.
Nguy hiểm đó! Đừng chạm vào!
It’s dangerous! Don’t touch it!
Món này bị thiu rồi. Đừng ăn.
This dish is rotten. Don’t eat.
Em đừng có đến trễ đó.
Don’t be late.
